Research and Professional Interests
Meagan Hawes obtained a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and is currently completing a public health fellowship in Rwanda through Global Health Corps. Her interests lie in the connections between human and environmental health, especially as they relate to water and natural disasters. Currently, Meagan is working with Health Poverty Action, an international NGO, on the launch and implementation of their Rwandan Girls’ Education & Advancement Programme. The program aims to improve access to education for marginalized girls in Rwanda by addressing insufficient water and sanitation infrastructure in primary and secondary schools. It centers on awareness-raising campaigns, menstrual hygiene management, and the construction of dry composting toilets at local schools. Her role is to measure and report on project impact.
