Water and Agriculture

Food production accounts for over 70% of the worlds water use, and most nations are consuming this water unsustainably.  As croplands become hotter and drier, this poses a serious concern for the future of society.  In addition to quantity problems, there are major challenges in ensuring the safety of the water supply for food production and in diminishing the impact of food production on environmental water quality.  The JHU Water Institute engages in research on all of these fronts.
