The M. Gordon Wolman Seminar Series presents: Sustainable Foundry Manufacturing and Cleaner Water
Featuring Fred Cannon
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Penn State University
Abstract: Fred Cannon has worked with foundries for several decades, in achieving sustainable manufacturing that generates less pollution at less cost and less energy with more profit. These innovations have saved foundries about $100 million dollars. The innovations include advanced oxidation, bio-based fuels, bio-based binders, and coal fines reclamation that would otherwise be thrown away. He also tailors activated carbons to remove targeted contaminants from potable water, and addresses how to process hydrofracturing fluids in an environmentally compatible manner.
